Updates By Liev: Version 3 (UBL:V3)
Edition 2.2 So... you want to be a sanctioned league? The 2024/2025 numbers
Women’s Flat Track Derby Association -WFTDA
$500 dues for a year
Plus the cost of Women’s Flat Track Derby Insurance (WFTDI) for all skaters listed on charter. $100 for each additional team each year. Plus WFTDI for those skaters. To maintain ranking a team must play 5 close bouts per season 18 months from January 1st, 2024- June 30th, 2026 for example (this is also part of the requirement to be eligible for regional champs and a team must place in the top 12 in their respective region . By the way there are 100 teams roughly in a region. Three regions in the Continental United States as of this edition.)
Once a league becomes sanctioned the dues are REQUIRED every year to remain active. usually a league that is not caught up in dues will be listed as inactive.
Mens Roller Derby Association- MRDA
$325 within 30 days of acceptance (and each year after)
to potentially be accepted minimum 10 rostered skaters and engage in 5 full length bouts under the rules of Flat Track Roller Derby (FT)
roughly $90 for each skater’s insurance ($900)
It’s hard to calculate the cost to join MRDA because of the five bouts needed previous to being accepted. Putting a price on Bout production is a challenge. Factors can be space rental, jerseys, required gear for all skaters and officials at the baseline.
United States Association of Roller Sports- USARS
$300 for an adult Club Charter,
$90 for each individual wishing to participate in USARS Sanctioned events. ($50 is a limited membership but the specifics are not quite spelled out.) $25 for single event (good for 5 days)
$125 for couches ($25 for the testing fee. $100 for each year)
$50 for officials ( & club officers) but all are free with a coach, if I’m reading it correctly.
potential one year cost. $965 ( 6 skaters, & 1 coach estimation)
A club in USARS requires 6 people in good standing with USARS insurance policies. I haven’t seen any designation beyond that and I am not sure the USARS website stays current with whether clubs are active. I researched many on that list and found them not active on social media, they might be engaged locally though. It seems being paid up is what good standing means.
Once to twice a year USARS holds nationals, teams entering do not seem to need to meet any larger requirement other than being members in good standing. Teams have debuted at Nationals. Because there is fewer teams and leagues in general, the second map lists teams appearing in various locations including nationals going back two years presently.
According to a conversation on the USARS Roller Derby Community Facebook page, being chartered is not required for Roller Derby to go to nationals but there is a $500 registration fee.
Roller Derby Coalition of Leagues -RDCL
There is no publicly available information about how to join the RDCL. One probably will have to email the site and hope to get a reply. Second best method is to be connected to one of the listed leagues from the website.

*Correction * WFTDA teams must only play 1 sanctioned regional game every 2 years to maintain a ranking.
The 5 game minimum is required only if you want to qualify for regional championships
